We’ve all heard the horror stories spray tans going wrong. The streaking and the patching along with the tango tan that never seems to fade. Brides choose to go natural to avoid the risk of tanning disasters. You’ve researched and invested in the best professional Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist. Why would you not do the same for your sun kissed glow to complete your bridal look?
With the above in mind, here’s my top do’s and don’ts for the perfect bridal tan. Or any tan for that matter!
Do: Research Specialist Bridal Tanning Technicians
Finding the right spray tan professional is just as important as the rest of your bridal styling team. Make sure you choose a bridal tanning expert. That way you know your skin is in the right hands.
Don’t: Argue with your Technician when it comes to colour
Listen to your pro when it comes to choosing the right shade especially when they tell you to go with a lighter one. She knows what works best for lighting and your photographs. Remember, the focus is on your wedding dress not your tan and well Debbie Does Dallas is not a good look!
Do: Book a trial
Book your trial or trials with the last one being one month before your wedding at the very latest to ensure you have time for your skin to return to a blank canvas for the big day spray. It also allows your technician to customise the colour and solution that suits you best. The last thing you want to do is look like Ross from Friends!
Don’t: Never ever ever ever spray over an old spray tan.
Spraying over an old tan is like getting a manicure over an old nail polish. Urgh! Tacky! I’ll be blunt. It looks shit! Your wedding tan should look perfect. BTW, I apply this all my Clients whether they’re getting married or not.
Do: Prep your body as well as your face
You’ve had facial treatments for the year before your wedding and invested in the products for your pretty face to be picture perfect. Do the same with your body. Exfoliate your body twice a week and moisturise every day with pH regulated products. Morning and night if you can. And…….hydrate from the inside so drink water. Speak to your tech about the best products to use including soap or body wash to regulate your pH level.
on’t: Exfoliate, moisturise or shave on the day of your spray tan appointment
Noooooooo. No scrubs, oils or lotions. We need the skin’s amino acids for your tan to take, so don’t scrub them off. Also any lotions will cause a barrier and block the tan’s absorption.
There’s no such thing as a stupid question. Ask your tech to describe their technique as well as ingredients, guide colours and fade times. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned spray tanner, every tech uses different methods and solutions.
The above is just the tip of the iceberg with regards to spray tanning so follow your tech’s guidelines and you’re sure to be the perfect bride on the day.
